2014 Community Assistance Projects

the Arenas Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee approve the recommendations
outlined in Report APRAC14-002 dated January 21, 2014, of the Recreation
Division Coordinator, as follows:
a) That partnering
with Soul Beach Volleyball, through the Community Assistance Program, to
establish two additional beach volleyball courts in Beavermead Park, in 2014,
at an estimated cost to the City of $18,260 be endorsed;
b) That
Staff be directed to:
i) Assist the
residents of the Stewart Park neighbourhood to establish a neighbourhood
association, with the goal of constructing a children’s play structure within
Stewart Park, through the City’s Community Assistance Program; and
ii) That Staff be
directed to report back to the Arenas Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee
once the association is established, the type of play structure is identified,
and the estimated cost is determined.

Ball Diamond Development Presentation

outlined in Report APRAC14-005 dated January 21, 2014, of the Recreation
Division Coordinator, as follows:
a)
That
a presentation from Brian Basterfield, on the preliminary design to establish
an official sized baseball diamond on the east bank of Trent University be
received;
b)
That
the site immediately north of Pioneer Road on the east bank of Trent
University, be endorsed as the preferred site for the new official sized
baseball diamond, including the repositioning of the existing rectangular sport
field; and;
c)
That
proceeding with the detailed design phase of the baseball diamond project at
the preferred site be endorsed.

Presentation of the Arena Needs Assessment Project Draft

the Arenas, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee endorse the recommendations
outlined in Report APRAC14-007, dated January 21, 2014, of the Manager of the
Arenas Division, as follows:
a) That the
presentation of the Draft Report on the Arena Needs Assessment Study by Robert
Lockhart, Rethink Group be received for information;
b) That the final
Arena Needs Assessment Study be circulated to all neighbouring arena operators
for review and that the Arenas Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee be
encouraged to hold a forum with the regional operators to better understand the
potential impact of the Needs Assessment;
c) That the Arena
Needs Assessment Study be endorsed as a planning tool to inform and guide the
feasibility study stage; and,
d) That advancing
the project to the feasibility study stage for a new twin pad as a replacement
facility for Northcrest Arena be endorsed; and that staff be directed to bring
options back to APRAC for endorsement and to City Council for approval that
address:
i) Location
ii) Development
Partners
iii) Concept
plan (which may include complementary facilities)
iv) Detailed
costing and funding plan
v) Timing
and implementation plan.

the Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre.

the adverse effect that the current sidewalk conditions have had on outdoor
recreation, the Arenas Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee endorses the
recommendation of a report being presented to City Council in April from
Utility Services recognizing the concerns and outlining possible solutions.
