Minutes of a Meeting of Arenas, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee Held on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 in the Sutherland Room, City Hall.

 

The Arenas, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee meeting was called to order by Gary Rabjohn, Chair at 5:30 p.m. in the Sutherland Room, City Hall.

That the minutes of the meeting of the Arenas, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee held on June 18, 2013 be approved.

Off Leash Dog Park Update

 

Moved by Councillor Beamer

 

That the Arenas, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee approve the recommendation outlined in Report APRAC13-027 dated September 17, 2013, of the Recreation Division Coordinator, as follows:

 

That Report APRAC13-027 be received for information; and

 

That the Off Leash Dog Park matter be referred to Council.

Director of Community Services

Report APRAC13-032

Delegation Requesting Refresh of Millennium Park Gardens

 

Moved by Gary Baldwin

 

That the Arenas, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee approve the recommendations outlined in Report APRAC13-032 dated September 17, 2013, of the Director of Community Services, as follows:

 

a)            That the delegation requesting improvements to the gardens in Millennium Park be received;

 

b)           That staff be directed to explore the concerns further and to report back to the Advisory Committee before year end with a long term plan to upgrade the gardens in the park; and

 

c)            That the Advisory Committee receive regular updates on the action plan.

Update Presentation on the Arena Needs Assessment Project

 

Robert Lockhart, Rethink Group, provided an update presentation on the Arena Needs Assessment Project.

That the Arenas, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee (APRAC) approve the recommendation outlined in Report APRAC13-029, dated September 17, 2013, of the Arena Division Manager, as follows:

 

That the update presentation by Robert Lockhart, Rethink Group, on the Arena Needs Assessment Project be received for information and feedback.

Northcrest Arena Update

 

Sue Warrington, Arena Division Manager, provided an update on the sand floor installation at Northcrest Arena.

Relocation of the Downtown Youth Space

 

Rob Anderson, Recreation Division Coordinator, provided information on the relocation of the Downtown Youth Space.

That the Arenas Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee (APRAC) approve the recommendation outlined in Report APRAC13-030, dated September 17, 2013, of the Supervisor of Parks and Forestry, as follows:

 

That the report be received for information purposes.

Provincial Concussion Strategy

That the Arenas, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee approve the recommendation outlined in Report APRAC13-026 dated September 17, 2013, of the Recreation Division Coordinator, as follows:

 

That report APRAC13-026 be received for information.

Other Business

 

Ken Doherty, Director of Community Services will forward information to Committee members on the rental rates at City facilities.

 

Phil Jacobs will follow up on the removal of portable toilets at the Kinsmen Park. 

 

Discussion was held on the idea of having a skate loan program at local arenas for children.

 

 


Next Meeting

 

The next meeting of the Committee is scheduled for October 15, 2013.
