MINUTES OF A MEETING OF ARENAS, PARK AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE HELD ON TUESDAY, JUNE 15, 2010, IN THE GENERAL COMMITTEE ROOM, CITY HALL

 

The Arenas, Park And Recreation Advisory Committee meeting was called to order by Chair Bill Juby Jr. at 5:30 p.m. in the General Committee Room.

Proposed Community Garden Sites

That the Arenas Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee endorse the recommendations outlined in Report APRAC10-022 dated June 15, 2010, of the Recreation Division Coordinator, as follows:

 

a)         That City Staff be directed to investigate the feasibility of establishing a community garden on each of the following three City-owned properties, as requested by the Peterborough Community Garden Network:

 

i)          Wentworth Park

            ii)         Inverlea Park

            iii)        Quaker Park – (West Side of London Street Foot Bridge)

 

b)        That City Staff be directed to proceed with the establishment of a community garden at each of these sites that are deemed feasible to accommodate community gardening activity.

That this report, the draft Minutes of the Committee’s May 28^th, 2010 meeting and draft budget for 2010-2012 be received for information.

Beach Volleyball Courts At Beavermead Park

That construction of two regulation size beach volleyball courts within Beavermead Park be approved, if sufficient funding partnerships are secured.

That a Special Occasions permit request for the 2010 Peterborough Pride Celebration to be held in Millennium Park on Saturday September 25, 2010 be approved, in accordance with the City of Peterborough Alcohol Management Policy.

That a presentation/verbal report from Brian Buchardt, Planner, Urban Design, on various Planning Department parks/recreation related projects be received for information.

Report APRAC10-023

Use of Nicholls Oval By Peterborough Cycling Club

Presentation

 

Sean Kelly from the Peterborough Cycling Club made a presentation to Committee.

That the Arenas Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee approve the recommendations outlined in Report APRAC10-023 dated June 15, 2010, of the Recreation Division Coordinator, as follows:

a)         That report APRAC10-023 and a presentation by the Peterborough Cycling Club be received for information

b)        That upgrades to the paved track at Nicholls Oval Park be approved, upon City Staff receiving notice from the Peterborough Cycling Club and the Peterborough Rugby Club that they are in agreement with a park use schedule that is acceptable to the City

Proposed Design For City Parks Identification Signs

That the Arenas Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee approve the recommendation outlined in Report APRAC10-019 dated June 15, 2010, of the Recreation Division Coordinator as follows:

 

That the Arenas Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee provide input regarding the proposed design of the city parks identification signs.

The Committee endorsed the sign concept included as attachment ‘A’ to Report APRAC10-019 and provided staff with additional input on the design/appearance.

Commemoration Requests

That the Arenas Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee approve the recommendation outlined in Report APRAC10-021 dated June 15, 2010, of the Recreation Division Coordinator, as follows:

 

That Staff be directed to create a report identifying the short and long-term implications of initiating a commemoration program, and to provide recommendations based on those implications.
