Committee endorse the recommendation outlined in Report CSSSJSSC13-006, dated
June 13, 2013, of the Director of Community Services as follows:

Employment
Support Services for Ontario Works Clients

Ken Doherty, Director of Community Services, City
of Peterborough provided introductory comments to report CSSSJSSC13-008. Karen
Wilson of Employment Planning and Counselling and Stephanie Wilson of Northern
Lights, Employment Ontario private partners were introduced.

That the Joint Services Steering
Committee (JSSC) endorse, and recommend to their respective Councils, the
recommendations outlined in Report CSSSJSSC13-008 dated June 13, 2013, of the
Director of Community Services, as follows:
a)
That
as per the January 10, 2013 Joint Services Steering Committee direction, the
Peterborough Employment Resource Centre (PERC) office be closed, effective July
31, 2013.
b)
That
the legislatively required employment support services for Ontario Works
Clients be retained in-house and the balance of the employment services be
provided by Employment Ontario (EO) service providers.
Committee at its meeting of June 13,
2013 made the following recommendation:
c)
That
an update report be provided in six months that includes the City and County’s
ability to service OW clients and a survey of the private sector’s ability to
service non-OW clients.

introductory remarks.

That JSSC receive and approve of a
PCCP budget revision that would enable the transfer of funds from the EMS
County/City Shared Reserve to enable the purchase of replacement
defibrillators.

Discretionary Benefits Status Update

Ken Doherty, Director of Community
Services, City of Peterborough, provided an update on a meeting held with provincial
representatives and City staff regarding discretionary benefits.
Moved by Mayor Bennett, seconded by
Councillor Whelan
That the Mayor and Warden send a
letter to the Minister of Community and Social Services, requesting a meeting to
discuss discretionary benefits, areas of concern and the urgent need to address
the matter.
