Improvements at the Peterborough Museum & Archives: Presentation
Representatives from Lett Architects
Inc. made a presentation to Committee regarding planned Building Improvements
at the Peterborough Museum & Archives.

dated March 11, 2010, of the Museum Director, as follows:

Committee approve the recommendation outlined in Report MAAC10-005, dated March
11, 2010, of the Museum Director, as follows:
That the Museum Director’s report with
respect to the monthly activities of the Peterborough Museum & Archives for
February 2010 be received for information.

the Peterborough Historical Society Newsletter dated March 2010, be received
for information.
Other Business
Little Lake Master Plan
Reference to the
Peterborough Museum & Archives

That
the revised wording, contained in the Little Lake Master Plan, Corridor of
Activities Section, regarding the Peterborough Museum & Archives be
approved, subject to the following amendments.
a) That
the following typographical errors be corrected:
i) All references
to the Peterborough Museum & Archives, identified as the “Museum,” be
corrected to “Museum & Archives;”
ii) The first
sentence be amended to read “Peterborough Museum and Archives is located in the
Ashburnham Memorial Park.”;
iii) The word “Road” be added
after Armour in the fourth sentence.
b) That the wording
“certain activities” within the first bullet be replaced with “many activities,
including community events and celebrations”.
c) That the wording
“This should not delay continued investment in the Museum.” be replaced with
“As a result, continued investment in the Museum is necessary.”
d) That the
following statements be removed:
i) “The
long-term ambition to consolidate all of the cultural facilities downtown is
not obviated by the continued operation of the Museum at its current site over
the short to medium term”;
ii) “However,
in terms of the best interests of the community and in order to foster a strong and
vibrant downtown, the City should continue to investigate opportunities for the
eventual relocation of the Museum to the downtown.”
e) That the following be
included as a final stand-alone statement:
The Museum
& Archives’ current location is within a significant heritage corridor that
includes the Trent Severn Waterway, the Lift Lock, the Lift Lock Visitor
Centre and Ashburnham Memorial Park. This Heritage Corridor was singled out
through the public and stakeholder consultation as an important cultural asset
to the future development of Little Lake.
