Minutes of a Meeting of the Accessibility Advisory Committee held on April 6, 2016 in the Doris Room.

 

The meeting of the Accessibility Advisory Committee was called to order at 4:00 p.m. by Councillor Riel, Chair in the Doris Room, City Hall.

WALK Friendly Ontario Feedback Report

 

Susan Sauvé, Transportation Demand Management Planner, provided a presentation on the WALK Friendly Ontario Feedback Report.

That the presentation of the Transportation Demand Management Planner regarding the WALK Friendly Ontario Feedback Report be received for information.

Access Fund Request 001-16

 

Mary Gallop, Manager of Facilities and Special Projects provided an overview of the planned Library renovation and her request for Access Funding for a snow/ice melt system on the Library pathway.

a)            That Report AAC16-025 of the Accessibility and Communication Specialist be received for information.

That the AAC approve Access Fund Request 001-16 submitted by the Manager of Facilities and Special Projects relating to the Peterborough Public Library renovation and expansion project, for Item 1 (snow/ice melt system for walkway), in the amount of $53,302.

Accessible Pathways to Playgrounds

 

Phil Jacobs, Supervisor of Parks/Forestry, provided a presentation on a project to install accessible pathways to some City playgrounds.

That the Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) approve the recommendations outlined in Report AAC16-023 dated April 6, 2016, of the Accessibility and Communication Specialist as follows:

a)            That the presentation of the Supervisor of Parks and Forestry with respect to the prioritization and placement of installing accessible pathways to playgrounds be received for information; and

b)           That the AAC provide input regarding the prioritization and placement of installing accessible pathways to playgrounds at an upcoming meeting.

That the Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) approve the recommendation outlined in Report AAC16-020 dated April 6, 2016 of the Accessibility and Communication Specialist as follows:

That the AAC approve the revisions to the Access Fund Guidelines, as amended.

2016 Accessibility Advisory Committee Brochure

 

Following discussion the Committee requested that the “AAC Accomplishments” section of the brochure include reference to the 2014 Municipal Election, Handi-van level of service, Provision of Sidewalks Policy, Fire Code requirements for buildings with vulnerable occupancies and the AODA training session for Councillors, Committees of Council and Special Boards.

That the AAC approve the revisions to the 2016 Accessibility Advisory Committee Brochure, as amended.

That the Accessibility Advisory Committee approve the recommendations outlined in Report AAC16-022, dated April 6, 2016 of the Accessibility and Communication Specialist as follows:

a)            That Report AAC16-022 with respect to the meeting of the Transportation
Sub-Committee be received for information; and

b)           That the verbal update by the Chair of the Transportation Sub-Committee be received for information.

That the Accessibility Advisory Committee approve the recommendation outlined in Report AAC16-021 dated April 6, 2016, of the Accessibility and Communication Specialist and the Accessibility Compliance Coordinator as follows:

That Report AAC16-021 with respect to the current work of the Accessibility Office be received for information.

That the Accessibility Advisory Committee request the Arenas, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee to consider the installation of accessible washrooms at the Knights of Columbus Park and at any other park location where portable washrooms are made available.

Moved by Don Parnell

 

That staff prepare a report on the provision of accessible beach routes at Rogers Cove and Beavermead; and

That the report be forwarded to the Arenas, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee requesting that they consider making the City beaches accessible.

The Chair indicated that the next Committee meeting will be held on May 4, 2016.
