Minutes of a Meeting of Arts, Culture & Heritage Advisory Committee Held on October 13, 2011, in the Sutherland Room, City Hall

 

The meeting of the Arts, Culture & Heritage Advisory Committee was called to order at 7:03 p.m. in the Sutherland Room, City Hall.

That the minutes of the Arts, Culture & Heritage Advisory Committee meeting held on September 8, 2011 be approved.

Disclosure of Pecuniary Interest

Manager of Arts, Culture and Heritage

Report ACHAC11-019

Municipal Cultural Plan Update

 

Moved by Marcus Quin

 

That the Arts, Culture & Heritage Advisory Committee approve the recommendations outlined in Report ACHAC11-019 dated October 13, 2011 of the Manager of Arts, Culture & Heritage as follows:

 

a)         That the Draft City of Peterborough Municipal Cultural Plan report prepared by the consultants be received by the Committee for information and discussion.

 

Committee at its meeting of October 13, 2011 made the following motion:

 

That an adhoc committee be established to assist in defining the role of the Arts Culture & Heritage Advisory Committee in light of the Municipal Cultural Plan and,

 

That discussion regarding the creation of the Culture Council be deferred to the next Committee meeting of November 10, 2011.

The following members volunteered to be on the adhoc committee to assist in defining the role of the Arts Culture & Heritage Advisory Committee in light of the Municipal Cultural Plan:

That the correspondence from Thomas Miller regarding Peterborough Collegiate Vocational School be received and forwarded to Council.

Moved by Dennis Carter-Edwards

 

Whereas, the Arts Culture & Heritage Advisory Committee contends that the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board of Trustees’ decision to close the Peterborough Collegiate Vocational School is counter to the direction of the future development of Peterborough cited in the Central Area Master Plan, the Official Plan of the City of Peterborough, the provincial Places to Grow Act and our soon-to-be-released Municipal Cultural Plan, therefore be it resolved:

 

That the Arts Culture & Heritage Advisory Committee, strongly recommends that City Council pursue all available avenues to reverse the decision to close such an historic and vital institution.
