Minutes of a Meeting of Arts, Culture & Heritage
Advisory Committee Held on January 15, 2015, in the Sutherland Room, City Hall
The
meeting of the Arts, Culture & Heritage Advisory Committee was called to
order at 7:00 p.m. by Dennis Carter-Edwards, Chair in the Sutherland Room, City
Hall.

2014 be
approved.

Report ACHAC15-001
Public Art Projects

That the Arts, Culture & Heritage Advisory Committee (ACHAC)
approve the recommendations outlined in Report ACHAC15-001 dated January 15,
2015 of the Director of Community Services as follows:
a)
That
the presentation on past
City Public Art initiatives and Public Art murals,
particularly in Chemainus, British Columbia, be received as information;
b)
That
the proposed Downtown Business Improvement Area Public Art Mural Project be
approved as a 2015 priority project and that ACHAC be apprised of the proposed
Focus Group discussions early in the new year;
c)
That
a detailed proposal for the potential City Hall Mural Project as a 2015 project
be prepared for ACHAC’s consideration early in the new year;
d)
That
the inquiry relating to Hunter Street Bridge Graffiti be explored as a
potential Public Art project in 2016;
e)
That
in accordance with the Municipal Cultural Plan, the Arts Culture & Heritage
Advisory Committee approve the inclusion of a Public Art project in 2016 as a component
of the Library Renewal Project;
f)
That
a Public Art Steering Committee be established as a subcommittee of the Arts
Culture & Heritage Advisory Committee in accordance with the City’s Public
Art Policy, and that a member of ACHAC be appointed as an Interim Chair.

ACHAC appoint Bruce Stonehouse as the Interim Chair of the Public Art Steering
Committee.

Municipal Cultural Plan Report Card Update

That the ACHAC direct staff to combine
the content from 2013 and 2014 in one Municipal Cultural Plan Report Card for
2014, and
That it be presented to City Council
early in 2015.

Proposed Changes to
Civic Awards

That the Arts Culture & Heritage Advisory Committee (ACHAC)
endorse the recommendations outlined in Report ACHAC15-004 dated January 15,
2015 of the Director of Community Services as follows:
a)
That
the Blood and Platelet Donations, Civic Award of Merit – Act of Heroism, and
Sports Personality of the Year categories be deleted;
b)
That
the following categories be combined:
i)
Cultural
Betterment and Cultural Award of Merit
ii)
Civic
Athletic Award of Merit and Sport Betterment
iii)
Female
Junior Athlete of the Year and Male Junior Athlete of the Year
iv)
Female
Senior Athlete of the Year, Male Senior Athlete of the Year;
c)
That
the following categories be added:
i)
Adult
Athlete of the Year
ii)
Environmental
Stewardship/Sustainability Award;
