MINUTES OF A MEETING OF ARENAS, PARK AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE HELD ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 19, 2010, IN THE SUTHERLAND ROOM, CITY HALL

 

The Arenas, Park And Recreation Advisory Committee meeting was called to order by Ken Doherty, Director of Community Services at 5:30 p.m. in the Sutherland Room.

Introduction of New Committee Members

 

Ken Doherty, Director of Community Services asked new and existing committee members to introduce themselves.


 

Moved by Yvonne Coveney-Boyd, seconded by Councillor Eggleton

 

That the Arenas, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee proceed with electing the chair and vice chair.

Election of Chair and Vice Chair

 

Moved by Councillor Martin, seconded by Yvonne Coveney-Boyd

 

That Bill Juby Jr. be appointed as chair of the Arenas, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee for 2010.

 

Moved by Councillor Eggleton, seconded by Gary Rabjohn

 

That the nominations for Chair be closed.

Upon the main motion of Councillor Martin and Yvonne Coveney-Boyd, the motion carried.

 

Moved by Councillor Eggleton, seconded by Gary Rabjohn

 

That Yvonne Coveney-Boyd be appointed as vice-chair of the Arenas, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee for 2010.

 

Moved by Gary Rabjohn, seconded by Councillor Martin

 

That the nominations for Vice-Chair be closed.

Confirmation of Minutes – November 17, 2009

 

Moved by Councillor Martin, seconded by Yvonne Coveney-Boyd

 

That the minutes of the meeting of the Arenas, Park and Recreation Advisory Committee held on November 17, 2009 be approved.

That the Arenas Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee approve the recommendation outlined in Report APRAC10-001 dated January 19, 2010, of the Recreation Coordinator, as follows:

Recreation Coordinator

Report APRAC10-002

The Sale and Serving of Bottled Water in City Facilities

 

Rob Anderson, Recreation Coordinator made a brief presentation to introduce this item.

 

Moved by Councillor Martin, seconded by Yvonne Coveney-Boyd

 

That the Arenas Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee approve the

recommendations outlined in Report APRAC10-002 dated January 19, 2010, of the

Recreation Coordinator as follows:

 

a)         That the Arenas Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee receives report

APRAC10-002 for information; and

 

b)        That the Arenas Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee provides input to Staff regarding the sale and serving of bottled water in City facilities.

That staff review all situations where bottled water is used in City facilities and to explore alternative solutions and to eliminate the use of bottled water no later than 2016 to coincide with contractual obligations.

Report APRAC10-003

Request for APRAC Representation on the Civic Awards Screening Committee

 

Moved by Councillor Eggleton, seconded by Councillor Martin

That The Arenas Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee approve the recommendation outlined in Report APRAC10-003 dated January 19, 2010, of the Recreation Coordinator, as follows:

That the Arenas Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee select two of their members to sit on the 2009 Civic Awards Screening Committee.

That Gary Rabjohn and Yvonne Coveney-Boyd sit on the 2009 Civic Awards Screening Committee.

That staff prepare a report regarding the feasibility of a beer garden at Del Crary Park for the 2010 International Dragon Boat Races, no later than the February 23, 2010 Arenas, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee meeting.

The next meeting of the Committee is scheduled for February 23, 2010.
