Minutes of a Meeting of Arts, Culture & Heritage Advisory Committee Held on June 9, 2011, in the Sutherland Room, City Hall

 

The meeting of the Arts, Culture & Heritage Advisory Committee was called to order at 7:04 p.m. in the Sutherland Room, City Hall.

Report ACHAC11-014B

Interim Artsweek Advisory Committee

 

Moved by Cathy Wilson

 

That Arts, Culture & Heritage Advisory Committee approve the recommendations outlined in Report ACHAC11-014B dated June 9, 2011 of the Manager of Arts, Culture & Heritage as follows:

 

a)            That an Interim Artsweek Advisory Committee be created to function as a sub-committee of ACHAC for the balance of 2011, with the Chair reporting accordingly;

 

b)           That ACHAC confirm the appointment of one of its members as Chair to work with City staff to develop a committee of no more than seven members, including the Chair, to be drawn from the community at large and members of ACHAC;

 

c)            That the composition of the Interim Artsweek Advisory Committee for 2011 be approved as follows:

 

Candace Shaw, member of ACHAC (Chair);

Laura Berazadi, member of ACHAC;

Ray Marshall, member of ACHAC;

Patti Shaughnessy, member of ACHAC;

Councillor Pappas;

Debbie Murphy, DBIA;

Ben Dick, City staff

Becky Rogers, City staff

 

i)          That meetings be held as required, at the call of the Chair until the end of the committee’s term in December 2011;

 

            ii)         That the quorum for a meeting be a majority of the members;

 

iii)        That members be expected to exercise Duty of Loyalty and Duty of Care by identifying and/or avoiding potential conflicts of pecuniary interest in compliance with the Municipal Act as outlined in By-law 05-041, a By-law to Repeal By-law 95-10 and to establish an Arts Culture & Heritage Advisory;

 

iv)        That the Committee be authorized, from time to time, to invite other persons or groups to address the committee and participate (non-voting) in discussions on subjects of relevance before the committee;

 

d)     That the Interim Artsweek Advisory Committee be responsible for reviewing the purpose of Artsweek and terms of reference for future Artsweek Advisory Committees.

Introduction To The Organizations Represented On ACHAC

 

Erik Hansen on behalf of PACAC, Erik Hanson on behalf of Peterborough Museum and Archives and Dennis Carter-Edwards of the Peterborough Historical Society made presentations.

That the Arts, Culture & Heritage Advisory Committee approve the recommendation outlined in Report ACHAC11-004E dated June 9, 2011 of the Manager of Arts, Culture & Heritage as follows:

 

That the presentations from PACAC, Peterborough Museum & Archives, and the Peterborough Historical Society be received for information.

Other Business

 

Becky Rogers polled Committee members for a possible meeting in the summer.

 

Councillor Parnell discussed the matter of the Chair position becoming vacant in the fall.

 

Committee discussed the option of hosting meetings at alternate venues.

 

The Vice-Chair thanked Cathy Wilson for her involvement with the Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee.

 

Candace Shaw mentioned the Canadian Canoe Museum Party at Beavermead Park on June 25, 2011 and the Day of a 1000 Canoes on the Grand River.

 

Candace Shaw mentioned the Peterborough Folk Festival on Aug 25-28, 2011.

 

Barbara van Vierzen commented on a June 16, 2011 Sustainable Peterborough event – An Evening with David Chernushenko.

The next scheduled meeting is September 8, 2011
