Minutes of a Meeting of the Waste Management Committee Held on May 16, 2011, in the General Committee Room, City Hall

 

The meeting of the Waste Management Committee was called to order at 2:00 p.m. in the General Committee Room, City Hall.

 

Present:

Councillor Ron Gerow, County of Peterborough

Councillor Dave Nelson, County of Peterborough

Councillor Barry Rand, County of Peterborough

Councillor Dean Pappas, City of Peterborough

Councillor Keith Riel, City of Peterborough

 

Absent:

Councillor Len Vass, City of Peterborough

 

Staff: 

Laurie Westaway, Manager of Environmental Services, County of Peterborough

Sandra Clancy, Director of Corporate Services, City of Peterborough

Alex McLeod, Property Asset Manager, City of Peterborough

Virginia Swinson, Waste Reduction Program Coordinator, City of Peterborough

Minutes – January 24, 2011

 

Moved by Councillor Pappas seconded by Councillor Rand

 

That the minutes of the Waste Management Committee meeting held on January 24, 2011, be approved.

Moved by Councillor Riel, seconded by Councillor Nelson

 

That Committee move into closed session to discuss one item under The Municipal Act, 2001, Section 239(2)(c) A Proposed Or Pending Acquisition Or Disposition Of Land By The Municipality Or Local Board.

 

“CARRIED”

 

 

Moved by Councillor Pappas, seconded by Councillor Nelson

 

That Committee move out of closed session.

Committee reconvened in open session at 2:16 p.m.

 

Manager of Environmental Services

Bensfort Road Reconstruction

 

Laurie Westaway, Manager of Environmental Services, County of Peterborough provided Committee with an overview to the report. 

 

Moved by Councillor Nelson, seconded by Councillor Pappas

 

That the report dated May 16, 2011, from the Manager of Environmental Services, County of Peterborough, with respect to the Bensfort Road Reconstruction, be received for information.

 

“CARRIED”

 

 

Other Business

 

Councillor Rand expressed concern that the Bensfort Landfill site is not accepting oil/cooking grease, and enquired if there was an update with respect to the relocation of these services.

 

 

 

 

Moved by Councillor Pappas, seconded by Councillor Riel

 

That a report be prepared with respect to local Biodigester initiatives.

 

“CARRIED”

 

 

Moved by Councillor Nelson, seconded by Councillor Pappas.

 

That a report be prepared with respect to the issue of the collection of cooking oil/grease at the landfill, outlining alternatives.

 

“CARRIED”

 

 

Next Meeting 

 

The next meeting of the Committee is scheduled for June 20, 2011.
