That
the minutes of the meeting of the Arenas, Parks and Recreation Advisory
Committee held on November

approved.

Report APRAC13-001
Presentation by the
Fenner Foundation
Moved by Councillor Beamer
That the Arenas, Parks and Recreation
Advisory Committee approve the recommendations outlined in Report APRAC13-001
dated January 15, 2013, of the Recreation Division Coordinator, as follows:
a)
That
correspondence from the Fenner Foundation and a presentation by the
Foundation’s president, Stanley MacLean be received for information.
b)
That
the request to establish the proposed monument on City owned land be denied;
c)
That
the project proponent be encouraged to secure an alternate site for the
proposed monument outside the City boundaries, ideally in the Village of
Lakefield; and
d)
That
the preparation and installation of a Heritage Recognition Plaque in Nicholls
Oval Park be encouraged as a City sponsored alternative.

Report APRAC13-002
Establishing a
Community Garden at Stewart Park

That the Arenas, Parks and Recreation
Advisory Committee endorse the recommendation outlined in Report APRAC13-002
dated January 15, 2013, of the Permitting Recreationist, as follows:
That the establishment of a community
garden within Stewart Park be approved.

Request to Rename
Stocker Park
Gary Baldwin declared a conflict at
this point and refrained from voting on this issue as he is co-author of the request
letter.

That the Arenas, Parks and Recreation
Advisory Committee approve the recommendations outlined in Report APRAC13-003
dated January 15, 2013, of the Recreation Division Coordinator, as follows:
a)
That
report APRAC13-003 be received for information; and
b)
That
the renaming of Stocker Park to Pagett Park be endorsed.

Park Enhancements to
Mapleridge Park; 60’ x 90’ asphalt recreational surface

That the Park Enhancements to
Mapleridge Park; 60’ x 90’ asphalt recreational surface request be referred to
staff so they can contact the authors of the letter and explain the process and
next steps that can be undertaken.

Other Business
Phil Jacobs, Supervisor, Public Works,
advised that he received a request to have Public Works install larger signs
indicating that ‘dogs must be leashed’ and ‘stoop and scoop’ is in effect along
the Rotary Trail.

That APRAC supports the installation
of larger signs indicating that ‘dogs must be leashed’ and ‘stoop and scoop’ along
the Rotary Trail from Maria Street to Nassau Mills Road, as a pilot project, to
determine if there is improved compliance.

It was noted that “Hockey Night in
Canada” will be televised from Peterborough on February 9, 2013.
Concerns were raised regarding the
snack bar being closed at Northcrest Arena. Sue Warrington, Arenas Division
Manager will be invited to the next APRAC meeting to discuss this issue.

The next meeting of the Committee is
scheduled for February
26, 2013.
